Webbychat

Webbychat is an interesting piece of software that lets your website users talk to each other live on your own site. It is like an instant messenger program on your site.

Once signed up there are various packages available including a free version with some basic features. This allows visitors on your site talk to each other like a live chat room and you can talk on any page. The Webbychat software remains open at the side of your website so you can continue to browse different pages and still maintain a conversation.

You can easily install Webbychat by copying and pasting a piece of code onto your site. You can visit the Webbychat website in order to see it in action. Webbychat is made using Javascript and therefore shouldn’t affect the SEO on your site.

The guys at Webbychat are all friendly and respond to your questions pretty quickly. That’s one of the benefits of the software in that it is instant. This will mean users can troubleshoot questions and get answers quickly from other members of your community.

Other features include ringing bells, banning users and kicking users out. They are also developing a user power system where users can earn special abilities and “level up”. The 2 people behind Webbychat are also eager to hear your feature requests so feel free to ask.

Check it out and let me know what you think of Webbychat.

tweetbios Tweet Bios Extend Your Twitter Bio

Tweet bios lets you express yourself in more detail by extending your twitter Bio. It does this by letting you create a tweet bios page where you can fill in extended details about yourself and your website.

Tweetbios uses a similar looking interface to Twitter so users will feel natural when visiting your tweet bios page.

The good thing about Tweet bios is that the extended information can give your potential followers a better sense about who you are. Therefore you will be able to describe your interests and websites in more detail. There is also space to add more links to the page so you will be able to add more of your online profiles to the page.

When signing up for Tweet bios you enter your twitter user name and password and you can create your profile instantly. The only issue I had with Tweet bios was that a link to your tweet bios profile is automatically added to your twitter profile (with check box permission) replacing your own website link if you have one.

This means that users will need to click on your tweet bios profile in order to click through to your own site. Other than that the site is a nice idea and would be great for twitter users to express themselves in more detail.

What do you think of Tweet Bios?

Joobili

Joobili.com is an interesting new concept for a travel website. Instead of choosing the destination first you select the dates and Joobili will recommend interesting places to visit at that time.

Joobili can help you discover new places to visit that have interesting events occurring during the dates you selected. According to Joobili “timing is everything” and they want to recommend places at the best time of the season when festivals and events occur.

Joobili is a play on spelling of “Jubilee” which is a special time of the year or season of celebration. This means that you will be able to discover festivals in various cities around Europe. You can then save these events to your “Golist” and connect with other travelers who have similar interests.

The website is very well designed and the interface is easy to use. The homepage has a slider which you can move to select dates. Then you can click the “Inspire me” button to find all the relevant places. You can also select a country and categories like music festivals or arts festivals if you wanted something more specific.

This is a great idea for a website and will help you discover new travel destinations. Let me know what you think of Joobili.

foodista Amazon Invests in Foodista

Foodista has recently received funding from Amazon and other angel investors to fund their growth. AceStartups featured Foodista back in January. They provide user submitted recipes so people can learn how to cook. They are an online cooking wikipedia.

Foodista was started by ex Amazon employees and have recently received $550,000 funding from Amazon and some Seattle Angel Investors. This should be good news for the founders and shows that the website could be on its way to doing well.

twitterjobsearch1 Twitter Job Search Find Jobs Using Twitter

Yep, that’s right. Another great use of the twitter API. It does exactly what the title says and allows you to search for the latest jobs using Twitter.

All you have to do is type in the job title and the location and TwitterJobSearch will show you all the latest tweets. For example you could type in “Business Analyst in New York” and all the relevant tweets will be shown with a link to the job application.

You can type in even more specific searches than that and you will be bound to come up with some relevant results due to the vast network on Twitter. There are already tons of recruitment agencies posting their latest jobs on Twitter as well as the regular online job search engines so searches will wield results.

The good thing about TwitterJobsearch.com is that you can sort the results by relevance and date. You can also refine the search via salary, job title and job type if you are getting too many results.

Also if you are looking to fill a position you can easily get included on TwitterJobSearch by simply tweeting your job.

This is a great little tool that uses Twitter’s vast network to help you search for a job.

Check out TwitterJobSearch.com and let me know what you think.

Ashton Kutcher is the first Twitter member to reach 1 million followers. This is a milestone for one of the best web 2.0 startups in recent years. Twitter can no longer be considered a start up and this achievement establishes Twitter into mainstream media.

A video of the moment Ashton reached 1 million followers can be seen below.

Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk) challenged CNN (@CNNBRK) in a race to 1 million followers with both surpassing the millionth mark earlier today. With the help of Diddy and Oprah he managed to beat CNN to 1 million followers. Kutcher donated $100,000 to fight malaria to celebrate his victory.

Ashton Kutcher is becoming the poster boy for Social Media and Web 2.0. He made a live video stream of the moments leading up to his victory and mentioned that this is a victory for the people over large corporations. The full video of his victory over CNN can be seen on Ustream.tv.

He also mentioned the fact that Facebook beat Twitter to 1 million fans on Ashton’s Facebook fan page showing the power of social media and how one network can help another. Today’s milestone clearly shows the power of leverage and the rising success of Twitter.

Anyone surprised Twitter survived the surge in traffic without crashing? ha.

Social Translator

Social Translator is an online community which aims to translate online content such as websites, videos and phrases.

The translations are made by members of the community and therefore do not rely on inaccurate translation tools. The community then votes for how accurate the translations are by using an accuracy tool to mark them.

SocialTranslator.org are currently building up their community of translators from all over the World and hope to cover a range of languages. Their main focus at the moment is translating Youtube video’s. Once a video translation has been made users will be able to watch the videos while the translated text would be shown scrolling down next to the video. This has never been done before and would allow videos to be watched and understood by people all over the World.

If you are a multi-lingual individual and would like to use your skills to help translate information than this would be a great community to join.

Check out SocialTranslator.org and let me know what you think.

Another great video from the folks at Common Craft. The video explains Social Networking in Plain English. Ace Startups features a lot of social networking sites and this video explains why social networking sites are so popular.

The video is so simple and so brilliant at the same time. Made in 2007 it has over 300,000 views on Youtube. It is also an example of excellent viral marketing. Any social networking startup looking to build up its community will need to spread their message virally. This video is a great example of how to do that.

Check out the video above or view the video here.

shesconnected1 ShesConnected.com Social Network for Busy Women

ShesConnected.com is a new social networking site for busy women. They are targeting women that juggle many different aspects in their lives. This would include career women, mothers, business owners, employees and members of the online community.

ShesConnected helps women manage their professional and personal lives all in one place. Users can create a personal profile for their friends and family or a professional profile for colleagues and business. Users will be able to keep them separate or combine both of them.

Once signed up members will also be able to add friends, join groups and create a blog. There is also a national directory of women’s events so you can keep up to date with whats happening all over the country.

Shes Connected is a good idea with a growing community that helps to organise the lives of women who have very little time. The site has some great features with useful content such as the “articles” section which contains some interesting nuggets of information for women. The “bloggers” section is also a great way to discover new blogs and connect with bloggers who have similar interests to yourself.

Will the busy women targeted by this new site have the time to use another social networking site? They probably already use Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and numerous other sites.

What do you think of ShesConnected.com?
