When I came across this site I was intrigued. What is it? Woices allows you to upload your voice or any audio recording and link it to any location or real-world object.
What this means is that you can make an audio recording (what they call an “echo”) and leave it in a real place for others to download and listen to.
There are many applications for this type of service and the potential is huge. For example you can download Woices about a famous landmark onto your MP3 player then visit that landmark.
When at the location you can then listen to all the Woices for that landmark. It can be used for city tours and walks which would be great for tourists.
You can also upload and record your own sounds called “echoes” and leave your echo in a specific geographic location. These could be your opinion, advice or observation about the place. You can record anything you want even a song!
So instead of uploading pictures (like Flickr) or videos (like YouTube) you just upload sounds.
Woices ultimate goal is to “extend reality by creating a new level of audio information”. This is an interesting concept and with the proliferation of mobile Internet this service may become easier to use and more widespread in the future.
Will Woices be the YouTube of audio?
